With an estimated 130 million users, LinkedIn has become the preferred social network for the business community, providing opportunities for individuals and corporations alike to connect, gather information, and encourage growth.
The LinkedIn Company Page emerged as a way for businesses, large and small, to get on the social media bandwagon in a way that was both professional and productive. These pages can be used to showcase company products and services, highlight success stories, and share recent corporate developments.
By creating a company page on LinkedIn, you will become visible in the LinkedIn search listings, and get a boost in the Google rankings as well. It can also help the hiring process, and its wide array of analytics tools is unparalleled.
There are four basic components to a LinkedIn Company page:
- The first, aptly named the Overview tab, is designed to act as a reception area for LinkedIn users gathering information about a business or company. Typically, it contains a summary of the company’s products and services, as well as its recent status updates, blog posts and Twitter feeds. Users can also see who in their personal LinkedIn network works for the company. And they can become followers of the business so that posts and updates appear automatically on their own LinkedIn home pages.
- The Careers tab acts as a job posting area for companies seeking applicants across the LinkedIn community. While a basic job posting is free, businesses are invited to upgrade to either the Silver or Gold Career Page, both of which provide greater opportunity for customization, for a fee. The Careers tab also provides a place for companies to showcase existing talent and outline key corporate values and benefits.
- In Products and Services, companies are able to provide greater detail regarding their business offerings. This is a very important tab, as it can be customized based on the attributes of the LinkedIn member viewing the page, so that only the most relevant products are displayed. It also displays product recommendations made by LinkedIn constituents — a powerful social validation tool.
- The Analytics tab is designed for use by the Company Page’s administrator. It provides ongoing statistics regarding who is visiting your pages, what they view and how your results compare to similar businesses on LinkedIn. It’s a great way to see what’s working and what needs to be improved.
